Southern Cross Hospital, Christchurch
Consultancy Services: Mechanical, Hydraulics & Electrical
Southern Cross Hospital Redevelopment and Upgrade involved the refurbishment and addition of operating theatres, ward 3 and staff change facilities. Peter Barnett had previous site specific experience prior to this project, having been involved with the design and contract administration for the refurbishment of operating theatres and wards in 1998, and the installation of the MRI scanner in 2000.
Cosgroves provided a full compliment of building services for this project - Electrical, Fire, Mechanical and Hydraulics Engineering. The design process involved reviewing the existing reticulated services with regards to the alterations and upgrade as necessary such that the design complimented the phased construction of the contract. This allowed the Hospital to remain operational during the refurbishments with minimal disruptions to every day and surgical procedures.
The development incorporated a high spec ward area aimed at the upper end of the private market; rooms feature modern compact fluorescent luminaries and a combination of low voltage and incandescent luminaires. The over incandescent luminaires are controlled via the nurse call pendant unit as is the TV, in addition the nurse call pendant unit incorporates the speaker for the TV so that clients can choose to watch their own programmes without disturbing their neighbours.
