Carlton Corner Redevelopment
Consultancy Services: Mechanical, Electrical and Fire
As the pace of Christchurch rebuild gathers a familiar landmark, The Carlton Hotel once again occupies the corner of Papanui Road and Bealy Ave. The Carlton Corner has undergone many changes over the past 150 years and its redevelopment after the February 22nd earthquake has seen a modern rebuild including a Bar-Restaurant, Burger King and Office tenancy occupy the historic site.
Oakwood Properties gathered a strong design team to plan the sites redevelopment. Chris Prebble Architects developed the initial building design working closely with Engenium Structural Consultants. Cosgroves provided Electrical, Fire and Mechanical disciplines, with the task of managing the project falling to OCTA Associates. The design offered many challenges with the design team ever conscious of the sites historic and prominent location, coupled with the client's requirements to provide an energy efficient, future proofed solution.
The development has seen the Carlton Bar and Burger King become a hub of activity once again, ensuring that the Carlton Corner, once famous as the site of the country's first beer garden and tap beer will regain its prominent place in Christchurch's redeveloping city.
