The redevelopment of Manukau Health Park is to meet the need of future demand, take a load off Middlemore Hospital and provide improved access to healthcare services resulting in an increased capacity that is urgently required to avoid further compromising of services within the region. As this is an ongoing project, our objective is to design and distribute suitable Building Services designs for all newly constructed buildings and all areas due for refurbishment which will ensure comprehensive benefits for the client and users. we have also been appointed to deliver upgrades to site wide infrastructure. Improvements that will support short term capacity upgrades to the new theatres, Outpatient clinics, a new staff centre and new Radiology building.
The project involves the refurbishment of the remaining 4 of 5 levels of the Clinical Services Building (CSB), the entirely new AT&R building and the relocation of the existing Endoscopy department. This project requires our services design to take a phased approach to ensure the continuity of all hospital services. This also encompasses the challenge of integrating new systems with existing systems. We have managed to bring the current areas up to the latest industry best practice level of service and improve the number of negative pressure isolation rooms.
Cosgroves has been assisting Mercy Hospital with master planning advice and specialist services design solutions since 2014. Most recently we have provided services for the ICU Relocation, PACU, new offices, medical gases, and Marinoto Clinic fitout. Given the site is a working hospital these projects are being staged and Cosgroves understands fully the need for the site to continue its client services while achieving the redevelopment outcomes to take them into the future.
This project involved the refurbishment of Ward 3, the expansion and reconfiguration of the in-patient pharmacy and the expansion and re-configuration of the dietician facilities at the North Shore Hospital for WDHB. The projects can be summarised as a staged refurbishment of clinical and support areas in an active hospital. Cosgroves had a Requirement to provide designs that allowed for work to be carried out in multiple stages and to ensure any services isolations were carefully planned to minimise disruptions to surrounding areas that remained active. Additionally, it was imperative to complete designs that re-used existing plant and equipment where possible.
